The Boondock Saints

Director: Troy Duffy

Meh, another movie I waited years to see. Boondock Saints is a very Irish movie about two Catholic brothers who… for some reason or another, begin going around and killing those people whom they deem worth killing – drug runners, mobsters, etc. They run afoul of crazy FBI agent Willem Dafoe, along with pissing off some big name monsters who send their best guys after The Saints. I get the cult feeling to the movie, as it has a very earthy shooting style, mixing low budget small sets with some impressive action montages. But its also seemingly pieced together by someone impressed by the vigilantism, which is, of course, a grey area in the good/bad scale. Insultingly, the film is attempted to be elevated into some kind of morality play by the last few minutes of the movie, where people on the street are interviewed about the saints actions, and whether theyre justifiable or not. Instead of coming across as a fitting ending, it just seems like these were the questions they forgot to ask during the movie, making for a pretty dull action flick with a lot of swear words and some interesting moments that never makes any kinds of points or even decides on an actual plot beyond random kills. I sound really down on it… but it was entertaining, just empty.
