SERIES 7______________________________••••[four out of five]

‘Series 7’ has remained surprisingly fresh considering its a reality-TV movie that came out in 2001, right at the beginning of the burst of reality TV.  And interestingly, it’s gotten better.  We’ve seen the “death as entertainment” theme in movies before, and … Years later, we’ve seen all of this on TV now.  Maybe not the death, but that cheesy editing style and over-dramatic presentation is the truth, and my saturation to it allowed me to see this not as commentary, but just a view: if this happens, this is what it would look and sound like…

2 Fast 2 Furious – Movie Review

Listen, I get it – this movie is not for me. It’s not about dialogue, it’s not about characterization. It’s about cars and driving scenes. Even taken on those merits alone, the movie seems lacking. True enough – I know nothing of cars. Regardless, I get the sense that the people involved with this movie don’t know much either, beyond the notion that only sexy people and/or people who speak Spanish should drive cars that are rigged with Nitro boosts and painted in flourescent colors…

A View to a Kill – Movie Review

Okay. Ready? The only Bond films I have seen prior to this one feature Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig. Even though I am a filmy kind of guy (Read: both covered in film and interested in film), Bond has never held much appeal to me. Bear that in mind. Regardless, I do try to watch any given film with the notion that I might not be the target demographic.

Even with that notion planted firmly in my cheek, I have to assume that this was a bad Bond movie…

A – Movie Review

For a movie that has no set narration and seems to start sort of nowhere and end of sort of somewhere, this is an incredibly compelling documentary.

I do not normally care for documentaries, nor have I any interest in the Aum cult. What’s fascinating here is the juxtaposition of persons fairly removed from the world and their submersion in a culture in which they are primarily hated…

1st Testament: CIA Vengeance – Movie Review

It’s hard evaluating movies that are made with zero budget. Acting is never going to be that great, and if the Makers’ vision is larger than the constraints of the production, it ain’t gonna’ look too good. So movies of this nature have to be rated simply on… stamina, almost.

If you were some kind of a talent scout, looking to see if anyone involved with “1st Testament” had what it takes to move into the big leagues, what then? Alas, it still gets one star…

A Mighty Heart – Movie Review

Mainly focusing on the widow of a murdered journalist both directly before and after the kidnapping and eventually publicized beheading of her husband, “A Mighty Heart” does an excellent job of treading a line between realism and drama, without stooping too far into boring fact-relating or melodramatic cliche.  The movie is still average, in my opinion, as any film which is based on already-known events faces the difficulty of building suspense for the viewer…

Primer – Movie Review

I’m surprised that I disliked this. It sounded right up my alley – confusing, over logical, very few characters. I generally enjoy movies that are very focused and almost a challenge to watch. However, if the main criticism about this movie is that the scientific jargon makes it difficult to follow, that I had no problem with.  …

Here’s my main problem: There’s just not that much going on plot-wise…
