As season 2’s scope (and audience footprint) had expanded somewhat, so, too, does the commentary become a bit more sprawling in comparison to season 1’s. From a process perspective, there’s an incredible amount of information here that makes this a really valuable listen, both as an animation fan and a R&M fan, and I don’t mean to suggest that there’s not still plenty of drunken Harmon & Roiland prattling and peals of joyous laughter from everyone in the booth as they get off on their own creation, it’s just a skosh more… focused, if you will. So whereas I might relisten to the commentary on season 1 at an equal pace to the regular dialogue (for reals – it’s pretty funny stuff), season 2 would be more of an occasional visit. That, combined with the dreadful Howard Stern-peoples alt-commentary on one of the episodes – this is “bonus” commentary, so I shouldn’t knock it, but it was still really unpleasant – makes for the four stars, as well as the lack of any other (to me) worthwhile content besides the commentaries, unless you like whichever indie band they got to play the “seaosn 2 premiere party,” which I didn’t. I want more R&M yuks, not an hour long concert.
Also includes animatics.
