Ah, delicious. See, here was where the Aqua Teen team stopped caring about their audience and thus started churning out gold. The genius of this show at its peak has always been its weird sense of cartoon logic, churning out non-sequitor after non-sequitor that nonetheless follow some odd, understandable nature. The cold openings get funnier as even they stop trying to be about anything and the writers arrived at the general premises for Revenge of the Trees, or Broodwich, or The Shaving, or – one of my all time favorites – The Last One, is simply inspired. There is an interesting (but long, and slow) extra on the 2nd disc that puts a camera to the initial writing process between Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis and i think it encapsulates how the show is really about what THEY find funny. When you have funny guys following that rule, you get shows like this. Not the place to start for newbies, but if you dig random, smart humor, vol. 3 and 4 is your heaven.
