Wow pointless. Savage County scores a nod of some type for setting things in Texas and – while certainly playing up hick stereotypes for its torturing hillbillies – and allowing its principles to be pimply teens with yalls and accents without playing it for a joke. They also dont really try to pigeon-hole the geek or the jock, even though those characters are obviously there. Unfortunately, the pride it can take in creating some okay horror body-count characters doesnt amount to anything really memorable (just that nod), and shot one checks this movie as torture porn, with all of the hollow plotting that generally entails. Plotting here meaning a dumb excuse for having teens stumble into torture land. Murders are filmed by the killers, for – Im sure – some kind of meta film-within-a-film crap that our film-schooled director hoped for. Things never quite makes sense, theres no intrigue or creepiness, and theres no reason to any of it beyond a quick DTV cash grab.
