Laid to Rest

Director: Robert Hall

Sigh, its really hard to make horror this good. So look, there were a batch of great horror flicks the past few years and they all came from different directions – Martyrs with its blend of hardcore gore and depressing introspection, Trick R Treat with its bloody comedy mash-up, even mainstream Quarantine had a thing to say about the hand-held genre. And then Robert Hall dropped Laid to Rest, which is just a slasher movie, but good gosh what a slasher movie. The problem with evaluating this on plot and characters is that that goes against the grain for the genre. So even if LTR (…Lord of the…?) has a couple plot hiccups and doesnt dig too far down into whats going on, it does play *incredibly against type* for slasher tropes… along with offering true i have not seen that before… gore and a creepy effing bad-guy. The main hot girl doesnt get naked… your normal 1-dimensional horror cast-offs arent incredible idiots… and some other bits that I dont want to ruin. And its all handled on a professional looking… better than most mainstream horror looking… minimal budget. And they did theyre own music AND had a Daughters song in it! Come on! 5 Star it already. I liked every moment of this movie, and you will too. Unless youre one of those people that doesnt.
