Air Strike

Ah, delicious. Look, if you’re expecting this to be “good,” then you’re… I don’t know, new to this whole film game. “Air Strike” is about some awesomly America loving army (Rangers? Whatever.) people who are fighting evil …non-American… drug lords, one of whom I think was named “Chicago.” Probably not, but it’s funner that way and I actually forgot to wait for the cast list during the credits. Hm. I just realized that. So on some wild secret mission featuring THE WORLD’S TOP TECH some guys die. No one can replace that guy! Except for Robert Rusler, his brother. But he’s retired! He’ll do it though. …For AMERICA. And then there’s his new partner – A CHICK! HOLY CRAP! And I don’t know anything about the army or the rangers, but apparently women can have long blond hair and it’s cool, as long as she’s an ace pilot who immediately falls in love with Robert Rusler. Honestly: this was enjoyable pap, with stupid one-liners and enjoyably hammy commitment with a lot of great “don’t tread on me” type statements and things that don’t make ANY sense in the real world. Yes, the repeated CGI footage of helicopters is awful. But Rusler does a good job of being a more “natural” hero than a lot of DTV heroes, and masters the “if I yell loud bullets don’t hit me” routine. Plus: there are a couple odd minutiae-type moments that are unusual in these movies, so that’s worth… something. It starts to get stupid(er) toward the end, with unnecessary extensions upon extensions of the ending, but… uh… AMERICA.
