All-Star Superman

Director: Sam Liu

Well, you watched it and it happened. All-Star Superman, like most of the DC cartoon movies, is generally pap, without the 30-minute forced focus that can made the Justice League TV series so good and with some generalized characters to keep the thing watchable to non-fans. In other words: absolutely average. For those wanting the comic on which this was based, you get a couple core elements, plus the awesome Quitely-ized versions of the characters (except Superman, who they kept in his Bruce Timm tradition – but Clark Kent looks good), and honestly, though the punch of Morrisons comic has been removed… because that was designed for a comic after all… they did keep the sort of zany sense of something happening every minute that was achieved in that short series. Plus the writer did allow for some more open elements that you normally dont get in these things. Animation is of high quality, although they never go too bright or dark with colors so no particular image is ever too striking. Probably what youre expecting, All-Star Superman is probably not best for liluns, as its a bit dark at times, and itll make the comic purists angry, but average viewers will be able to sit through the cheeseball elements for 75 minutes and feel entertained enough.
