Excellent pivotal use of gore and atmosphere, 100 Feet takes a winning plot element and sensibly combines it with a worthwhile story to make fora mostly riveting 105 minute view. Famke Janssen is placed under house arrest to serve the remainder of her sentence for killing her abusive cop husband. Part of the way they monitor this house arrest is via a secure ankle bracelet that sends an alarm out if she ventures 100 feet away from the centrally located sensor. Its a great way of keeping the action focused on one locale without barring freedom of movement within that space. Theres slight hiccups in reality with how this feature works… as 100 feet doesnt seem to be the same measure in all directions, but for the most part with suspension of disbelief this tactic works in the movie. Famkes husbands cop buddies dont like her too much, and dont believe her statements of hubbie being abusive. …Even when his ghost comes back to the house and begins to rough her up again… Most of the plot here focuses on what really happened and why, and its greatly paced, and the spooks are well done and spooky with an unbelievably gory scene up near the end that really caps off how serious things are. Alas, the end is sort of overkill, and it helps to point out some of the other flaws in the film, but overall this is still an excellent thriller with dashes of horror thrown in.
