Original review here; this covers the worthwhileness of the reissue itself, which, as with the other TD reissues, assuming a reason you’re buying them is because you’re a fan… totally worthwhile. A remaster would always have been nice – especially on Bill, which sounds pretty flat outside of some propulsive singles on its bookends – but the transfer over to wax is well done, and does add some dimension to a recording which had the kind of clean sound of labels / groups trying to figure out how to present their weirdo college rock to a larger audience. But perhaps most importantly, for the presumed majority of us who owned the Island version of this album, is the restoration of cover Green Tambourine to the track list, which is such a good fit for the band and set and is just a feel-good cover besides.
Otherwise, splitting this into two 45s is nice, spacing out the listen (helping to break up that mid-album tedium), and the packaging is just really lovely, even though it feels odd to mix later photos in with the photo of the band from the album’s time that’s part of the original packaging – it would’ve cool to see some era-appropriate pics of Tim and crew, though maybe those just didn’t exist?
I will note that my A-side sounded a bit crackly, though I don’t see any comments on Discogs mentioning the same, so perhaps just a me issue – and it doesn’t necessarily sound so out of place with the album’s hippie vibes.
Anyway – complete your Daisy reissue set; your LP collection will thank you.
