Okay, I’m a smart cookie who thought the first issue was a standalone, and I had some things to say about its smart, oblique storytelling… and then Matt Emmons crafts a second book, just as good as the first, which ends up un-obliqueing some of that, but also making it weirder and more fantastical, and the possum gets a name.
I’m good with all of this.
The astronaut is reconstituted, or something, and explores this post-world to find a new mission, which involves a magic sword.
Again, I’m all good with this: from speculative sci-fi to a tightly told sci-fi fantasy tale, again printed in a delightfully DIY, faded blend of yellows and purples on off-white stock. It’s simple but wild, at the same time; kinda silly, but with undertones of something more, and potential for a LOT more, should Emmons continue with the story. (And here’s hoping he does.)
