Continuing the sound of their debut, The Planet The cross 00s danceable electro-punk with oddball indie for a nicely skewed bit of herky-jerk tunes. The catch here is that the mish-mash isn’t as scattered – perhaps not as forced – and the group leans into (for the most part) finding some melodies they’re willing to let ring out and not run away from. This does tend to square off all of the tracks to a similar runtime and vibe, as there’s nothing especially experimental once you’ve gotten used to their spazzed up Devo routine, but it also makes songs more identifiable, with core hooks and choruses driving the majority of them. That ends up being the plus / minus of the whole record, which is very listenable, but not necessarily memorable beyond the general sound. Overall, though, it’s the record I favor out of their two, as it feels less like an attempt to be strange, and shows more comfort with their sound.
