Titan Comics 2014 July-Dec Preview – Ricky Claydon

5 out of 5

Yup.  Once again, I don’t know who’s actually writing these up, but Ricky Claydon’s listed as a contact in front so why not.  Titan’s preview books are just the way to go.  They are jam-packed with information without it seeming cluttered at all.  The majority of the book offers a brief description, pricing / release dates / size / page length – and I can’t tell you how much I fucking appreciate that info, as I pre-order a lot of books and it’s a good way to get a sense of what I’m paying for and many preview books only give you a “Fall 20XX” type date and that’s it – and then a picture of the cover and two non-sequential pages.  This is simply maximum exposure, presented small enough to get two previews on two pages, but large enough to actually read the dialogue and captions in the previewed pages.  And by offering pages that aren’t one after another, you get the sense (even though this, too, could be manipulated if Titan wanted to be sneaky) that you’re seeing the different possible tones – action, drama – one book may offer.  The pages also have a handy border on the left-hand side with labels so you can flip through the pages easily to identify which book you want to look at.

Towards the front we have a contents / checklist – not presented in order of what follows, but due to the clean interior layout, this is fine, since it once more maximizes – without forcefully upselling – what’s inside, giving your eyes the most opportunity to see something of interest.  Some final ‘coming soon’ images (no description) seal the deal for giving the impression that Titan is just gonna keep rolling forward with fresh books.

I could’ve knocked a star off for printing the back cover upside down for no reason, but then I decided that I didn’t want to ruin Titan’s business.
