Suicide Squad #21 (2013) – Ales Kot

3 out of 5

Excitingly stylized but accessible art from Patrick Zircher – great framing, clear action – and an effectively paced script from Kot… though it does that fucking “seventeen days later / now” sequencing that the Big Two love in all of their books lately and it really added nothing to the tale, which is… something about Harley Quinn breaking out of Bell Reve and threatening Maria Hill and then helping to set up (with Deadshot) some ‘get out of Suicide Squad’ plan that’ll take place at that 17 day mark.  No idea how this is a part 2 of 2 story when it ends on another cliffhanger, but whatever, I don’t read these comics.  Also includes one of those dumb Channel 52 Ambush Bug wastes of space that pretends like the DC Universe is unified.

Still – not a bad book, moving along enjoyably enough, and if I was actually following Suicide Squad (I just bought this to check out some of Kot’s other non-Zero stuff), I feel like I’d have gotten my cover price worth.
