Aw, I wish this series was still going. The tales – Twilight Zone-kissed sci-fi – are definitely imperfect, but at the same time, almost every single story (two per issue, different creative teams, hence the series’ title) twists in a sincerely unexpected direction. And this isn’t a forced ‘Zag instead of Zig’ approach: there’s legit inventiveness going on here, presenting takes on tropey concepts (alien invasions; dystopic futures, etc.) that are fresh and fun to read.
The imperfections can somewhat be chalked up to indie-creator eagerness: scripts stumble trying to effect subtlety – sometimes the texts are too oblique to get their exact setup across – and the artists occasionally seem cramped in their 1/2 issue page allotments, rushing Big Ideas into not enough panels. But on both sides of that equation, this stuff is still above average quality: No eye rolling text, and some of the art actually is damned stunning.
Presented flipbook style in duotone grays. Every issue is worth a read.
