Sesame Street (#1, 2013 Ape Entertainment) – Various

4 out of 5

Me?  I’m here for the Jay Fosgitt illustrations, and now I’m really glad to have discovered Amy Mebberson, though Scott Underwood’s work here is pretty impressive also.  You?  Maybe you bought this for your kids, yeah?  And that’s what that rating represents: I think this is a pretty fun kid’s book, featuring recognizable characters done up in colorful, buoyant fashion, with a bright and clean printing from Ape Entertainment imprint, Kizoic.  Featuring one longer story (by Jason M. Burns) and then several 1-3 page backups, it’s also a good short-attention span book, while offering a nice range of vaguely educational tidbits, one-page gags, and imagination.  It’s nothing mind blowing, and that education is, as mentioned, rather vague, so it’s more a distraction at best, but it’s a well presented, fun version of that.
