Forsman has reached god-like status: there is not an iota of this one-shot special that is not awesome.
Plot? Sure: Revenger takes some X-Mas themed revenge. But also, watch Chuck shove a mini mob-run dystopic world-built world inbetween the panels; watch him expertly justify Revenger’s blood thirst with a no-context, compressed, cold open flashback.
Then watch as Revenger crosses lines we’d never expect, cracks wise, and flies off into the night, ho ho ho. Astounding.
There’s an initial Sin City vibe to the opening (negative space, black and white with a pop color), which Forsman apes well, but the pages emerge wholly as his own thereafter. And, it should be said, his time on his post-Revenger work seems to have upped his game: the action and drama and staging are all phenomenal.
Plus a flexi-disc soundtrack…? Hot damn.
