Producer: Amon Tobin
This is just a ball of Tobin madness energy, aggressive drum rushes with his foreign flare, kept focused by the short runtime and the need to score “Taxidermia” with an almost constant feeling of forward momentum (which was a great contrast to the dreary setting of the film). It’s interesting that a score for, essentially, a vignette film, is so cohesive, but Tobin finds his theme and plays with it from track to track, finding amazing space within even a 45-second intro to amp you up and not leave you high and dry – each track has a proper start and finish but definitely necessitates working in sequence to get the flow. When you wonder if the “story” is starting to wander by the fifth or sixth track, Amon slaps another 40-second rush of jitters onto the EP and then brings the theme back for a successfully powerful conclusion. The cover image used – a guy ejaculating fire (from the film) – is pretty fitting, not for the sexual connotation but the release of it, like these songs can’t wait to be heard.
