2 gibbles out of 5
Director: Ken Annakin
While this version of the Musketeers’ tale seems charmingly hammy (Beau Bridges’ mustache!) and gloriously sloppy (some of the fight scenes are masked way poorly, with people reacting to hits that don’t contact or getting stabbed by arrows which clearly flew right past them), it lacks that magic Nth ingredient that makes for fun viewing. The acting quality fades in and out of the film, and the seriousness of the twin’s jailing is mixed poorly with the wordplay of the troupe, giving the whole thing an uneven feel.
The whole thing has the feeling of an abandoned project. There are much better Musketeer efforts out there for fans of the story.
