Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II

3 out of 5

Director: Michael Pressman

Ah, from the amazing first film to this. Yes, accepting that the whole concept of mutant turtles was a satire to begin with, if the first movie straddled that line between the adult humor and violence of the Mirage comic book and the childish sensibilities imbued in the overall series itself and the cartoons – thus making for a pretty unique and timeless film – the second one drops down to the exactly what youd expect category. Villains return, theres a dance number, jokes are more slap-sticky and punny, colors are more colorful and the suits are more rubbery. And April used to be a model. And wheres Casey Jones? Thats cool. Its still fun for the most part, with impressive in-suit martial arts bits and pieces, but an incredibly average film as well.
