Snuff

Director: Paul von Stoetzal

I understand that this is just meant to be a documentary about Snuff, and not necessarily dealing with the sociology behind it, but all the same, this documentary is so surface it comes across as a high school project. The question the film purportedly seeks to answer: does it exist? is resolved within the first minutes. The answer is… Probably. After that we get interviews with random semi-related-to-the topic people offering opinions on how they feel about snuff… Which would broach the interesting territory of why this phenomenon has existed for so long… but instead the film never even tries to explore that and instead just keeps reminding you – It probably exists! Clips of horror movies and propaganda are spread throughout, but every interesting aspect of this topic thats introduced (serial killers, snuff during war, etc.) could have – properly researched – filled out an entire film longer than this 80 minutes pooper.
