Directors: Various Always Sunny people
Ah, what to say. By season 3 the gang has fully embraced the zaniness and insanity that started to trickle in to season 2. The first season found Its Always Sunny picking apart a taboo per episode, until Devito joined in season 2 and combined this rudeness with a need to expand the plot, allowing the creators to let their brains wander in some pretty awesome directions. But the combination is in full force with these two discs, the first episode (The gang finds a dumpster baby) being, in my mind, one of their most perfectly woven storylines, combining many disparate elements to lead up to an awesomely genius concluding shot. (Conclusions would later become a problem in season 4…) While the two parter (The gang gets whacked) is sort of off-base at first, with the drug-doing storyline lacking some of the more indirect humor of season 2s welfare episode, it gets better with age and repeat viewings. Minus this bump, every other episode of the season is glorious, and does what many comedy shows fail to do: builds on its characters instead of turning them into one-personality stooges. All of the sunny gang are ridiculous, but they keep adding quirks to round out their personas which make going back and watching episodes again incredibly rewarding. I wonder how long they can keep up this quality.
