Man. I would’ve said this would’ve been hard to render as normal as it was, but it happened. FAQs About Time Travel aims for the nerd crowd – it makes nerdy jokes about computers and nerds and Star Wars – and promises by its title and an admittedly snappy opening sequence to have some witty UK plotting with time travel. And the plot is there enough to merit that wit – some mates in a pub uncleverly discussing nerd stuff when one goes to the bathroom and exits said bathroom into a horrible future… subsequent returns to the loo have him flipping back and forth through, so the boys join together and skip in and out of this time portal to try and piece together why the future is a shambles and why they’re considered some of time lords in that shambly future…
It’s enough, right? Toss in some dry humor and you’re set for some giggles? And yet you’ve heard ALL of these jokes before, and they don’t even pursue any particular line of humor to its end, instead plucking the simplest jokes possible from all the large piles (‘don’t call us nerds,’ ‘let’s confuse star wars and star trek’) and moving on to the next predictable chuckle. I’d say then that it’s a nerd movie made for a more generic crowd, but there’s not enough of anything to appeal to any crowd, really. You’re just grabbing IT Crowd fans (Chris O’Dowd) and anglophiles and people who read the description and think it appeals to their smarty-pants-movie-watchin’ habits. Maybe it does. I dunno. It does fine with its budget, but otherwise it just… it just doesn’t really do anything notable.
