THANK YOU! Finally, ATHF is back to doing what it should: breaking the barrier of weird. Haters will tell of how great the first season was, and how it went too random after that… but that’s ignoring the great genius progression of Matt Maiellero and Dave Willis’ baby. It began with the out-there Space Ghost, which remained grounded enough for most people (most people who could tolerate the bland humor) thanks to the consistent structure and guests. But the weirdness certainly starts there. ATHF hopped from a particularly odd episode of Space Ghost into their own show… which was WEIRD, but again, maintained a format. …But the format was just to pitch the show, and thankfully, over the course of seasons 2-4, the guys just let loose with the bizarre, producing some truly hilariously inspired insanity. It’s half just thrown together, but there’s this strange underlying sense, glued together by this crazy shake, fries, and meat. The movie was icing. …But seasons 5 and 6 faltered. Perhaps from burn-out. But suddenly the jokes were more gross-out than strange and the nonsense… felt formulaic. Me sad. So. THANK GOODNESS for season 7, an amazing helping of almost inconceivably bonkers cartoonery. The live action episode? Effing meta-genius.
