Ever seen Red Sands, Alex Turner’s follow-up to Dead Birds? Don’t. I rarely suggest not seeing a movie, but: don’t. If Dead Birds was a great combination of genres, Red Sands attempted to do something similar with supernatural stories and modern warfare. And failed. Miserably. So instead – watch Afghan Knights. Not a great movie, but perfectly average. Budget went more towards location, actors, and sets than special effects, but that’s fine, because they don’t show anything they can’t afford to. And no, it’s not really scary. But I enjoyed watching it for what it was and you know what – all of the actors did a pretty respectable job, even ol’ whatsisname on the front cover there, and believable acting from an entire troupe is a pretty rare feat for these small-time films. A good mix of war, spooky stuff, and action
