…………………………..3 Ninjas: Kick Back…………………………..

2 gibbles out of 5

Director: Charles Kanganis

Kids movies are always sort of a mixed bag and a tough balance. The best of the bunch manage to find some appropriate blend of humors to create something timelessly entertaining. But do these movies provide the same kind of action or excitement and un-adult silliness that films like 3 Ninjas provide? Tough to say.

And so we have this genre of film thats almost a b-movie but made for children. And the sequel to 3 Ninjas isnt bad – its acted primarily well for its genre and weaves its themes and plots obviously but not too obnoxiously. The action scenes are staged, but staged well enough to look good. The three leads are well cast and, though some of the jokes fall flat (flatter than they should, anyway) and the initial romantic angle seems forced… and there are flatulence jokes and an ongoing joke with the asian girl that may be offensive… its mostly good fun. I stayed awake and tittered at some bits.
