……………………………….20 Funerals……………………………….

11 gibble out of 5

Director: Anghus Houvouras

Holy crap. I’m not quite sure why some movies get made, but this obviously had something to do with director/writer Anghus Houvouras wanting to show that big, muscle bound beefy types like “DJ Naylor” can wear glasses and be intelligent, starring in movies that talk about serious issues like corruption of the system. While a lot of these “from the streets” movies are often bad enough, trying to find some kind of “message” in the concept that being The King is cool but, hey, drugs and killing is not a good thing… movies like 20 Funerals are even worse, as they seem to hold themselves above the lot for some reason, ruining any kind of realism that could even come across accidentally. Acting is poopy. I was okay with the first couple minutes of scene layout and shot direction, until Mr. Houvouras decides to linger on Naylor weeping over his shot partner for like ninety hours too long. It’s serious, dude. I get it.
