An amazing, whirling swooze of atmosphere that evolves excitingly over its 17 minutes, giving way to a pulsing beat and a surprising amount of depth in its latter half. The depth is in both halves, but normally when an artist takes a bit of ambience and lets it bleed into something dancier, the reward is the added BPMs; Meridian Arc does that but keeps layering the track so that it’s as dance as its staticy space explorations in its lead-in section. Very impressive for an improvised piece, but I love the willingness to add to it – all completed in a single day, but the base level was tweaked after it was laid down, according to bandcamp.
A lovely, mindbending single-sided screenprinting pressing and impressive screenprinted cover complete the effect.
The digital offers a remix from Mood Organ which is okay, essentially taking the beat-y part of the track and elevating / cleaning up its synths a bit. I kind of like this as a bonus and not being on the LP.
