Various Artists – Tarantistic Seed Plot Of A World To Come

3 out of 5

Produced by: Various

Label: Road Cone

Some pretty good rock; some fuzz; some other stuff.

While Roadcone would eventually steer down a more “traditionally” outre direction with Jackie-O MF, a few Loren Mazzacane releases, and Rollerball, to start… the label was just kinda weird, putting out a smattering of 7″ or cassettes that were very much odds and ends, shuffling from noise to punk to experimental…

This 7″ is kinda awesome for jamming 6 songs on it, and for acting like a mini-compilation for the label, but its also – as per the description above – something of a mess.

Side 1 gives us the completely oblique “has the song started yet?” sound/s of Daniel Menche, listed as “processed heartbeats and body sounds” in the credits but sounding close to silence.  Then a brief but effective LM cut: a sustained few notes as usual but rung out for quite a bit of worth.  The side smartly closes with something upbeat: A great, fuzzy pop-rock song from Junket.

As side 1 builds up, side 2 lets us back down.  We kick off with solid rock from Bügsküll, followed by the less defined but still toe-tappable ‘Shag Rug’ from Hazel, and then the hundrum, atonal Fan Club Information from Refridgerator, and no, not the electronic one.

Fun for its mixed bag-ness, but an overall average listen for the same reason.
