The Gotobeds – Definitely Not A Redd Kross EP

5 out of 5

Produced by: My War

Label: Chunklet

Redd Kross, in their earliest incarnation, were a sloppy bundle of nervy punk energy, delivering slacker anthems with Steve McDonald’s way-before-Malkmus cynical goofball delivery that elevated the silliness just enough to get you to listen again.

Gotobeds, in their every incarnation, are the best composite of every garage rock act ever, combined with enough modern day awareness to keep things zipped up tight, smartly rocking out the whole way home.

So a Gotobeds cover of the first Redd Kross ep?  Why not!  The spirits are fully aligned, with rock abandon fueling these none-over-two-minute tracks, GTBs’ tightening things up and expanding on the already quality templates without rushing or overstuffing.  You’ll hear your Ramones, you’ll hear some Fall, some Pavement… and obviously some Redd Kross.  But most notably for a complete-covers release, you’ll hear the band itself, first and foremost: Gotobeds, kicking arse as ever.
