Man Or Astroman? – Destroy All Astromen!

Produced by: Man Or Astroman?

There ain’t nothing wrong with this Man or Astroman compilation… except that you’ve heard it all before.  Whether that’s literal – given that this is a collection of 7″s and ephemera – or as a comment on how nothing here really changes or improves upon their debut, Is It… MoA?, Destroy All Astromen! is pretty familiar stuff for either the inundated or casual listener.  Which isn’t to discard it: the live-to-tape recording style synchronizes the release nicely, and the MoA dudes are forever fine performists of their art, so the 21 tracks fly by breezily.  And, of course, if you have this stuff as scattered singles, it’s nice to have it all collected here.  But as a standalone venture, nothing really sticks out, from the predictable covers (Dick Dale, Rezillos) to the movie sample / surf template that takes up the disc’s nigh entirety, there’s not a single or balls-out rocker to be found.

Pleasant, and generally representative, but also rather generic, even amongst the MoA repertoire.
