The current is an okay song. BMG contribute some okay percussion elements and loops, and the core guitar piece isn’t quite as limber as a Bush riff, but it works like something from Institute – that is, predictable and friendly breakdowns and structure, but with enough bite to make it work. Gavin lyrics are interestingly gloomy and he finds a nice balance between his croon and more aggressive stance that works well for the alt-rock sound. So, y’know, all fine and good. The remixes – ‘Tee’s Freeze’ and ‘Blue Radio’ mixes, both apparently by Todd Terry, are 99% major label single album stuffer, where we just loop some elements and lay down different paces of a dance floor beat and call it a day. The prior mix, ‘Tee’, at least does some interesting panning with the vocals initially, but once it runs out of lyrics it’s got nothing to offer besides onea’ them loops, and at twice the length of the original song, it ends up overstaying its welcome. The second mix is pointless, focusing on one little BMG swoop sound but using almost the same beat as ‘Tee’ and even including, I think, some awesome “remix” vocalizations in there (yes, the awesome reminders where someone tells us we’re listening to – gasp – a remix).
Wastea’ money if you have the original song on either the Blue Man Group album or Terminator 3 soundtrack.
