Wax – 13 Unlucky Numbers

5 out of 5

Label: Interscope Records, Atlantic Records

Producer: Paul Q. Kolderie, Sean Slade

Yeah, there’s nothing to say.  13 Unlucky Numbers is a perfect punk rock album from start to finish, produced with just the right amount of clarity and thrash, sequenced with just the right pacing of soft songs and rock songs, just the right amount of sneer and sarcasm.  I’d like to brush it all off as California cool thanks to the Spike Jonze connection and the eventual Jackass ties, but despite the California cool of the single, uh, ‘California,’ the album just captures something real and rockin’ that gets lost in some filler tracks or cheesy lines on most punk rock albums.

So.  There’s nothing else to say.  I have a lot of albums I consider great, but very few albums that I’ve owned for long enough for the appeal of the initial listen to wear off and I still consider them awesome, and can still queue them up at almost any given time.  13 Unlucky Numbers is totally one of those albums.
