Apparently, the 2012 digital edition of this album wasn’t really mastered, just, like, maxed out and put out there. Thus, alongside some 2025 EPs, Ifihadahifi decided to group those and Sexy Results onto a physical edition, leading to the EP’s originals going over to the new EPs’ masterer – Chris Goosman – for a re-do.

My rating isn’t exactly fair, as I think Chris did the proper thing here: he mastered these tracks to match the vibe of the EPs. Those were, of course, recorded under different conditions, and a different time and place; while the 2025 stuff benefits (overall) from a kind of level-headed mastering that lets a decade-older Hifi express some sounds and moods slightly off their beaten path, I really think the pluses of Sexy Results are better appreciated with the “raw” master. It’s buzzy; it’s loud. Goosman’s take helps on the compilation to make all the material fit together, and I’d say it makes the intro / interstitial tracks sound more intentional than before, the songs themselves lack some punch to me, even if it’s easier to hear some of the guitar and bass nuances with the roomier mastering.

What swings me to still knocking the rating a bit is that the remaster also isn’t exactly a game changer: I prefer the original, but they’re ultimately (with apologies for my dumb ears) very, very close, making the “if you own one, do you need the other?” question a ‘no,’ at least for casuals.
