Do you have five minutes to spare? This “EP” from spaz freaks Ex Models and fame-baiters The Seconds asks for your dime, and offers worthwhile songs in return though only a pittance of a runtime. To be expected with the bands featured, I suppose, but hard to find reason to give it a spin when all of the songs are good but not standouts.
Exes definitely earn their “half” through brute force of their speedy compositions, and probably run through about three songs within any given minute long song. Seconds hang around for a bit longer with their slightly more lo-fi approach, one vocalist and the rhythm making for appreciable post-rock suited to My Pal God records, but the extra yelpy guy sort of throws it off. Their songs take up a little more time but not as much range, landing on mostly a single riff for each track.
Given an entire EP of their own material, either band on here could probably deliver something more substantial. As presented, though, you just get the gist before their moment is over. Perhaps better thought of as a split single, but the short nature of the songs would result in the same.
(Note: I have the CD version of this, which doesn’t bear the name “Raw Wild Love,” but that’s what the same song-ed 7″ release is called… I’ve always referred to this as “Split,” as that’s how the CD ripped to my computer…)
