DMX Krew – Sweatisfaction

4 out of 5

Label: Breakin’ Records

Produced by: DMX Krew

Funky ass house with a quirky sci-fi edge. Did I just describe every Ed DMX Breakin release? Possibly. But you know that they’re all good, and almost always offer something new.

In that sense, there’s nothing new here: three amazing tracks; one solid house tune. The A-side of Sweatisfaction gives us the electro club jam title track, buzzing with the vocal sample over a thick low-end. Backup Neural Net Funk is the only soft spot on the set; accurately named, but limited in scope in comparison to the other tracks, and hitting on its robotic hook a little repetitively. It’s good, just one of those Ed tracks that’s more for body-moving than anything else.

The B-side is unbeatable, though, advancing the “retro” sci-fi of the A-side to futuristic bleeps and bloops that have a slightly more gamer edge to them, both tunes introducing notes that are equally mysterious and quirky; a brilliantly unique but simple mash-up that takes the club vibes of this EP to the next level – making that body-moving organic and yet unpredictable.
