CPSmith – Electro Samples vol. 1 and 2

— out of 5

Label: Central Processing Unit

Produced by: —

That’s an unrate-able score, not a, like, scoreless thing. And if you’re looking this up on bandcamp, it’s attributed to the label, but the label is run by CPSmith (aka Chris Smith), so Discogs just credits it as I have.

Capturing this for posterity, as these volumes appear on two floppy disks, and are “sounds sampled using an Akai S3000XL” – i.e. a sound library. You get samples of different drum and synth sounds and sound effects. Maybe I could rate this if I was a DJ or composer and knew what to do with this stuff – wiki mentions that the Akai is “one of the most versatile and useful samplers produced,” so maybe these samples are sought after?; but the bandcamp page instructions also mention you need an Akai S-series sampler to use them, so… I dunno. You can actually listen to the samples, which are legit just 1-second effects, on bandcamp if you like, but I realize that’s not the point, or presumably not.

I am useful.

Anyhow, I love little curios like this, and I hope the cool gear heads out there had fun using it however it’s supposed to be used.
