A very special issue of…
Nah, this is an appreciated, if incomplete, behind the scenes look at comic book creation, as told in a coulda-been-more-meta comic book fashion, Mr. Jigsaw visiting his creators – Ron Fortier, Gary Kato, and editor Rob Davis – to see how the sausage is made.
Any clever references to how this interaction occurs within the Jiggy canon, given that Mr. Jigsaw comics have been shown to exist in that world? Nope: this is pretty much just an educational explanation. We get a full script for a short, Buck-focused tale (not the best tale either, frankly, as Fortier’s old school approach muddles his independent female archetype with a studly saves-the-day boyfriend), and some panels where Kato talks about his process, but only a few examples of it. Then Davis shows up to explain that an editors apparently only job is to scan pages.
Process books can be interesting, and it was nice that the team went through the effort to put a full, over-sized comic together on it. A bit better balance on presenting the process would have been nice, though, and maybe approaching it with a bit more cheek.
