A one-shot produced in between projects, Dead Duck and Zombie Chick gathers up some scattered DD work creator Jay P. Fosgitt had done in years past the original GN and fills out a full book with some new material (though none of this has been published before) and some commissioned sketches and pinups.
Jay’s impeccable sense of design, timing, and layout make this book an enjoyable read – granted a tolerance for occasionally juvenile humor and puns – but the compilation aspect is somewhat apparent, as there’s no real rhythm to the book itself. That being said, even Jay’s okay stuff is enough to convert you to being a fan, and if you’re a previous DD reader, there’s joy just in seeing more of this stuff – and particularly the newer strip, the humor of which rings out as a bit sharper.
There’s not necessarily joy in seeing the computer modeled zombie chick, though. Weird.
