This actually isn’t that great of an issue, but kudos to Tommaso for giving us an over-sized conclusion to his cut-short-too-soon series, and the book certainly gets an entertained laugh for it’s “kill ’em all” approach.
Dark Corridor kicked off as a stylized mash-up of pulp, B-movie tropes, specifically variations on the revenge tale. Drawn in Tommaso’s particular angled, simplistic look, the series landed on an overall unique vibe that was a little herky-jerk in putting its pieces together, but quite a bit of fun overall. Alas, we don’t get to see the long play for Rich’s characters, as the first arc apparently didn’t sell well enough to keep things going. Issue 7 is assumedly where we would’ve ended up, but its undeniably wham-bam paced, tossed into a “let me tell you what happened” frame to speed things along. And the bodies humorously pile up until the last panel.
So, no, if you were led in by the intriguingly stark cover image and this was your first take on the story – though hopefully the “series finale” tag on the cover wouldn’t make you think that was a good starting point – you’re probably not going to be much impressed: even with (I think) some extra pages, this isn’t a smooth read. But again, I absolutely appreciate Rich giving us a conclusion, and Image allowing an extra issue out the door to bring the series to as much of an ending as could be done in one book. I’ll certainly be around to check out Tommaso’s next project.
