Well, that was a waste of a special.
My suspicions grow that Curse Words isn’t interesting – or even that funny – without Ryan Browne’s visual additions. And I dig Mike Norton quite a bit, but his art is more script-bound than Browne; that is, if the script is average, he’s limited by that.
And such is the case here, in which Soule dreams up a really facile holiday celebration for Sizzajee and his wizards in a flashback tale. Some jokes are exchanged, and we get “background” on Wizord and Ruby hooking up, by which I mean one panel at the end implying it happens. Otherwise, let’s tread water for 20 pages on an unsatisfying competition for Sizzajee’s affection in which only 25% of our cast is actually involved and a potentially imaginative game is… unimaginatively played.
Competent, but pointless.
