New artwork; new format. That’s what you’re getting. Normally, with reissues – this is not a remaster – I’d be ranking the item based on the value, and give that there’s really nothing “extra” here, as long as the recording / mastering is competent (which it absolutely is), that at least merits an even-keeled 3 star ranking. I’m willing to knock this up for a preferential reason: this is one of my favorite Atmosphere sets, and it wasn’t previously available on vinyl; the style employed here – soulful, with a rock-flavored sense of pacing – is something I think Ant excels at, and that also happens to sound best in a wax format, gaining warmth over its digital version. So if I had a choice between the CD and this, I would own this, given that it’s priced reasonably (selling new at $27; a little less than average for a full-length release). And since I now own both, it does fall into that camp of something that’s worth the double dip for what I would consider an aural upgrade, remastered or not. (I also happen to think the new artwork is far superior…)
