A weird, cranky beat from Blockhead deserves its instrumental B-side: layers and subtleties in its beat go unheard behind our active, on-point emcees, and make the tune pop anew when played without them. But of course, you’ll want to be playing this track with them, Aes rapping more in his forward-momentum style here, and Lupe Fiasco upping his words-per-second and rhythm to pair perfectly with that. The theme seems to be marveling / snarking over the wondrous complexities / stupidities of man – we are fascinating and layered / we really aren’t all that complicated. Both rappers drop fantastic bars, although there is somewhat of a sense of that being the focus, of the song being conjured up out of nothing, with Fiasco’s lyrics in particular kinda loosey-goosey silly. So it feels somewhat fleeting, but it’s also just an insanely satisfying track from all of its creators.
